HABITAT PUBLIC ARTWORK
ARTS ACT, AINSLIE PUBLIC SPACES
Themed around Ainslie’s historic oak trees, the acorn appears across eleven recycled wharf piling installations. Each piling is inhabited by bronze sculptures of local native fauna, each interacting with an acorn. A number of the structures are connected via ‘talking tubes’, introducing a play element. An additional commission, three ‘racing’ snails with glow-in-the-dark snail ‘trails’, incorporate interactive fun and whimsy.
Community consultation and participation was an integral component in this project. School groups, shoppers and traders were invited to become a part of Ainslie Art, ‘signing’ their hand print as a contract of ownership. All participants received a hand stamp.
